Our Work

NFF logomastr RGB smIn 2010 the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance embarked on a partner project with the USDA Forest Service, the Forest Stewardship Challenge, sponsored by the National Forest Foundation. NM Wild trains and mobilizes volunteers to conduct surveys in four wilderness areas in Northern New Mexico. These surveys will help National Forests in New Mexico meet a national goal to have 100 percent of USFS wilderness areas managed to a baseline level of stewardship by 2014, for the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act.

NM Wild is seeking volunteers to continue the Forest Stewardship Challenge. Volunteers learn GPS data collection skills and foster a sense of ownership– and belonging– with the wild lands they survey.
